We all know golf is a gentleman’s game. Ask anyone who plays it!
The best memories are created on the golf course – The nonstop practice to get the perfect swing, the struggle to get the first putt, or the joy of getting the first hole in one.
Playing golf tournaments with your golf friends is a really enjoyable experience and so is enjoying a good golf movie with them. If you are a golf enthusiast and wondering about must-watch golf movies, then these 3 movies should be on your list.
- Happy Gilmore –
In Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler plays Happy Gilmore, a man who dreams of playing hockey but discovers his talent for golf. His grandmother’s house needs saving, so he enters a golf tournament to win money and help her.
Sandler’s charm in the ’90s and early ’00s was his love of sports which is seen in the Happy Gilmore movie. The movie shows Happy running up to the tee and swinging with all of his might; this is something unusual in golf, and originally made people laugh at him in the movie.
The Happy Gilmore was even honored on its 25th Anniversary when very well-known golfers like Woods, Fleetwood, and Wolff tried the famous Happy Swing.
In the video, the golfers are figuring out the most effective way to honor Happy Gilmore and his iconic swing as they keep running up and stopping a bit. “But, if you’re truly trying to be Happy Gilmore you have to put your whole body into it “ was the common comment received from everyone who had watched the video.
- Seve: The Movie
The movie depicts Seve Ballesteros’s epic rags-to-riches journey- from being a simple farmer’s son to one of the greatest golf players to date. The movie also circles around some of the memorable shots and momentous achievements from his career, as if it was a personal tour given by the legend himself.
Seve – The player who dominated the golfing world from the 1970s to the 1990s, faced many odds in the beginning days of his life: he was blocked at almost every turn in pursuit of playing golf, but even then he fought against the adversities to become one of the most spectacular and charismatic golfers to ever play the game.
At the age of 6, with a broken 3 iron strapped to a stick, he taught himself to play golf. And from then on, the golfing journey never stopped. He continued to become the world’s number one and the greatest golfer of a generation.
He was known for teeing off underneath one leg raised and playing golf on his knees. His game was a combination of comedy, skill, and showmanship that attracted everyone.
- Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius
The movie, Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius was the first movie to be granted permission to be shot on the prestigious fields of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, being one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. The movie starts with Jones as a young boy, from a very strict family where his father was only supportive of his sport. He emulates professionals and learns to play golf. And growing up he is obsessed with playing the game. In 1930, Bobby Jones proves to be one of the most pivotal figures in the sport, winning tournaments as a teenager, against veteran players like Walter Hagen.
Bobby Jones is the only player to win the U.S. Open, the British Open, the U.S. Amateur, and the British Amateur all four of the men’s championships in one season. And after that win, he retired, only being 28, believing that no golfer would equal that record, because no golfer was good enough to do it, would be an amateur. He also won seven U.S. titles in a row, an accomplishment that may be unmatchable. As he was an amateur who had to also earn a living he couldn’t play golf on an everyday basis and thus played only in championship level tournaments.
